Enchanted is the newest Disney flick to come by and it offers the mix-up of animation and live action. The story starts in the fairy tale world where Giselle is waiting for her perfect man to come find her and take her away… just like all fairy tales. Then when Prince Edward does find her and decides to marry her, the wicked witch(duh!) throws Giselle down a well that when you hit the bottom comes out of a sewer pipe in New York City, where else? So now we have a perfect princess trying to finagle her way through the streets of New York on her own with her animation world innocence. But to make the story even more cliche Prince Edward jumps into the well to come rescue her from this world. Then the witch comes too.. so you have a classic animation movie that through one small twist ends up in New York City. Thank you Disney for constantly finding ways to rehash the same story back to your audience that gives you so much money every year.

I expected a lot more from this movie the way the critics were eating it up but really it is not anything new or exciting. It isn’t very funny, the songs are not that great even though they were all nominated for Oscars. There is not anything new set wise, it is the same old New York that we all know and the story still ends with a girl and her prince charming. I won’t tell you the twist on that one, even though your kids will be able to tell you thirty minutes into the movie what is going to happen at the end.

Which brings me to my final gripe. Why do all Disney movies now try to last forever? I miss the old ones where they would throw the story at you and have it all wrapped up and out the door in 79 minutes, and that includes the old time credits running at the beginning of the film over the cards. Anyway, nice try Disney, you really fooled a lot of people but most people will recognize this story-line before the real story even begins.
