Anthony Green - Avalon (2008)
Our Rating:

August 3, 2008
Avalon is the debut solo album by former Saosin, and current Circa Survive vocalist Anthony Green. It will be released on August 5, 2008 on Photo Finish Records, with a US tour to coincide with its release. Keith Goodwin, Tim Arnold, Dan Schwartz (also known as the band Good Old War), and Adam Lazzara have guest appearances on this record. The album leaked in it’s entirety on August 1st, 2008.
Anthony Green, no stranger to the stage has previously played in Saosin & The Sounds of Animals Fighting as well as many other bands. His current side project contains a collection of songs Anthony has written over the past 5 years of his life. Many fans have fallen in love with some of these songs year after year when they surprisingly pop up at impromptu acoustic sets in venue parking lots across the nation after Circa Survive shows. These songs are now finally being recorded and released together for the first time as Avalon.
I am a huge fan of pretty much anything Anthony comes into contact with. Whether it was the first Saosin EP, Circa Survive, or even the randomness of TSOAF I still like it. I was super stoked when I heard that he was recording and releasing all of these songs because I had had bootlegs of his shows for so long and really did fall in love with some of the songs. Unfortunately this isn’t what I expected to be released from him.
I like that he did something a little different with the songs instead of just him singing over an acoustic guitar but some of the songs just do not sound right. A few have a brazilian type of sound which is nice but at the same time it seems like there is too much going on for what you are listening too.
The big bonus of this album is that you get the High and Driving EP as well which as always been available to download for free but finally it’s nice to have a hard copy of it. You also get 5 other older versions of the songs which I like better than most of the album versions probably because there isn’t as much nonsense going on. The letdown is that he didn’t record all of the songs for the album that he could have. There is a couple very good tracks that he could have fit on here. Bad Reputation and Rips You Apart and he also covers a lot of songs live but I can understand why they didn’t show up.
Overall a pretty decent release and if you want to buy it I would do so soon because there is a limited run with the 20 tracks, after the release hits 40K sold; it will be converted to a standard edition.
